Virat Kohli inspires many, not only for his performance on the field but also for his fitness regime. His fans admire him for keeping himself fit on and off the field. But how does he do it? In a media interaction, he mentioned that he doesn’t eat for taste but for nutrition. The ace cricketer revealed that about 90 per cent of his diet consists of steamed and boiled foods. He avoids rich sauces and spices, opting for basic seasonings like salt, pepper, and lime.
His meals often include salads, but he is particular about not adding curries with heavy spices to his plate. This minimalistic diet, he says, keeps him feeling light and energetic. “90 per cent of my food is steamed and boiled, with no masala, salt, pepper, or lime. Salads I enjoy, but no masala curries. Dal I would eat, no deep fried at all. Not a big fanatic of taste, I can eat pan grilled occasionally,” he said.
For proteins, Kohli chooses options like rajma (kidney beans) and lobia (black-eyed peas) but steers clear of oily, deep-fried foods. “I will eat rajma and lobia but nothing else in masala curries,” said Virat Kohli.
In his other media interactions, the ace cricketer has mentioned that he can eat the same thing for the next six months, three times a day, and he is completely okay with it. He has also eliminated gluten from his meals and instead prefers nutritious carbohydrates through smoothies, sprouts, and salads. His typical daily meals include quinoa, spinach, and a variety of greens, seasoned simply with lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
For lunch and dinner, Kohli’s plate is full of grilled vegetables and a bowl of soup. While he occasionally indulges in dosas, he keeps it to a minimum, focusing instead on a wholesome diet to enhance his performance. Virat Kohli is strict about what he avoids in his diet. He stays away from fried foods, rich curries, and dishes with heavy spices. Since switching to a vegetarian diet, he’s also cut back on dairy, choosing tofu and soy-based foods instead. Kohli has even removed sugar from his diet, showing his dedication to clean eating and simple nutrition.
It is not only his diet that helps him stay active and at the top of the game but his intense workout regime is something that is non-negotiable for him. At 35, he is still in peak fitness condition, and his extreme workout routine is designed in a way that can help him maintain his strength, speed, and endurance. Virat Kohli swears by high-intensity workouts that include a combination of strength training, cardio and agility exercises. His fitness routine is designed to enhance overall strength, endurance and flexibility, helping him stay at the top of his game.
Staying hydrated is a non-negotiable part of Kohli’s routine. Hydration is important for performance and recovery, and he ensures that he consumes an ample amount of water throughout the day.
