If you have low iron levels or have received a diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia, your doctor may recommend that you take supplements
Iron deficiency is extremely common across the world with mostly youngsters suffering from it. According to experts, lack of iron in your body causes anemia - the most common nutrient deficiency which affects up to 11 per cent of women of reproductive age.
If you have low iron levels or have received a diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia, your doctor may recommend that you take supplements. And if it becomes more serious, they may also prescribe intravenous (IV) iron infusions. In addition, you may be instructed to increase your dietary intake of iron. And so, eating and drinking more sources of both heme (animal-based) and non-heme (plant-based) iron can help increase your body’s iron stores and maintain iron levels in the appropriate range.
One among them is the miracle juice.
What is a miracle juice?
According to nutrition consultant Dr. Suman Agarwal, if you have anemia, you must drink a glass of miracle juice – made with tomatoes, pomegranates, amla, carrots, and beetroot early in the morning. "We devised a recipe called miracle juice, which is made from tomatoes, pomegranates, amla – which is vitamin C, then carrots and a little bit beetroot,” she said in a podcast interview.
Packed with iron, fibre, potassium, vitamin C, and vitamin A – this concoction of highly nutritious vegetables and fruits is among the best ways to keep yourself energized and fit. The miracle juice helps regulate blood circulation in your body, promotes the healthy growth of red blood cells, and lowers the risk of anemia.
According to Dr. Agarwal, adding amla or Indian gooseberry to the juice enhances vitamin C – which is very important to help absorb iron in your body and convert it into hemoglobin.
Miracle juice also helps improve your immunity levels – as both vitamins A and C found in carrot juice act as antioxidants and protect immune cells from free radical damage.
Additionally, the juice is also a rich source of vitamin B6 - providing 30 per cent of the daily value in a cup (236 grams). Not only is vitamin B6 necessary for optimal immune response, but a deficiency in it is also linked to weakened immunity.
How do I make miracle juice?
To prepare fresh miracle juice, you need the following ingredients:
- One carrot (preferably red one)
- One large tomato
- One de-seeded pomegranate
- Half boiled beetroot
- One amla
To make this juice, peel and wash all the ingredients, and churn them into a mixer or a juicer. Strain the juice and drink it fresh for an instant boost of energy.
