Mpox Case In India: As the world just took a respite from COVID-19 and was getting to its normal functioning, a new threat emerged - Mpox. Declared a global health emergency by the World Health Organization, Mpox has prompted concerns about a lockdown in multiple parts of the world.
"If you are detected with Mpox then you are supposed to be isolated at your home and avoid travelling outdoors," says Dr Manjusha Agarwal, Senior Consultant Internal Medicine Gleneagles Hospitals. Being quarantined can help minimize the risk of others getting infected with this virus. The duration of quarantine may vary, mostly until your symptoms or rashes on your skin are healed.

Will Mpox lead to another lockdown?

While Mpox is a highly contagious viral disease - with flu-like symptoms and painful skin lesions - it is still different from Covid. The main difference between these two viruses is their pace and the way they progress. Mpox spreads through close contact with people who are infected or touching contaminated objects, while COVID-19 rapidly spreads through respiratory droplets in the air when someone coughs, sneezes, or talks.
Therefore, the chances of a lockdown are bleak. Dr Manjusha says, "A lockdown is initially conducted when a particular virus or disease turns into a pandemic and infects a large number of people all around the world. Mpox is less likely to be a global crisis or lead the world to another lockdown as only a few cases of Mpox have been detected."
However, one should not overlook this virus and take necessary precautions and follow safety measures to prevent their risk of getting infected.

Symptoms of Mpox

Symptoms of Mpox may vary people to people. However, some common symptoms include:
- Fever
- Headache
- Muscle aches
- Fatigue
- Swollen lymph nodes
- Rash that progresses to pustules, typically beginning on the face and spreading to other body parts
- Chills

Risk groups
