Aniruddhacharya Maharaj ji, famously known as the ‘Pookie Baba’ is a spiritual guru who has gone viral on various social media platforms as reels of his witty teachings and responses have taken the internet by storm. Recently, Pookie Baba has talked about a hack that can help regularise periods. In the video, he spoke about the issue of irregular periods faced by women and stated that having hot water with desi ghee first thing in the morning can help regulate it. He further added that having it will not just regularise periods, but also help ease period pain. Period pain is often caused by blood clots; having desi ghee with hot water can address it effectively, he shared.
This video has left netizens divided into two as some agree with him and some don’t. The comments section is full of divided responses where one of the users has commented “I'm a doctor ..... according to me don't try this advice, Giving wrong advice. Bhagwan ki nam per logo ko kamse se kam bewakuf too mat banao doctor mat bano baba ho baba hi raho. (In the name of god don’t spread misinformation and fool people. You are a spiritual guru, stay confined to that and dont try to become a doctor),” one of the comments read.
Another user commented that she has tried it and it actually works - “Maine yah try Kiya Hai sach mein kam karta hai (I tried it and it really works).”
Ghee is rich in healthy fats and essential nutrients like vitamins A, D, E, and K, which help lubricate the digestive tract, promoting smooth bowel movements and relieving constipation. This remedy is also believed to detoxify the body. Ghee acts as a carrier to flush out toxins (ama) accumulated in the digestive system, while warm water facilitates this cleansing process. Regular consumption may enhance metabolism and improve gut health. But does this detox drink actually help regularise periods?
Dr Astha Dayal Director- Obstetrics and Gynaecology, CK Birla Hospital Gurugram shares that “Hot water taken with a teaspoon of ghee is considered to regulate periods by many. However, there is less scientific evidence found to validate this particular claim. Nonetheless, ghee does have a lot of healthy fat in it, and it enriches digestion and hormone function. This may indirectly benefit menstrual health. However, it shouldn't replace medical advice or treatment for irregular periods.”
Dr Dayal shares some home remedies that may help regulate periods:
1. Ginger Tea: Ginger tea can be sipped every day to improve blood flow and maintain menstrual cycles in balance.
2. Cinnamon: Adding a bit of cinnamon to warm milk helps to keep the hormones in place.
3. Aloe Vera: Fresh aloe gel mixed with honey, taken on an empty stomach, aids in hormonal balance.
4. Papaya: Ripe green papaya can increase uterine contractions and help regularize periods.
5. Healthy Lifestyle: Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and proper stress management play a crucial role.
